Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim was founded as the ‘Deutsche Schaumweinfabrik in Wachenheim’ (the ‘German sparkling wine factory in Wachenheim’) by the brothers Friedrich and Ludwig Böhm in 1888.
It was registered as a public company in 1892, under the name of ‘Deutsche Schaumweinfabrik AG, Wachenheim’. This makes it one of Germany’s oldest and most traditional sparkling wine producers, and one of Germany’s oldest public companies.
The company reached its present form in 1996, when Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG merged with the Trierer Sektkellerei Faber GmbH & Co. KG.
From its beginnings as a company based solely in Germany, Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG has become an international corporation with subsidiary companies in France and East-Central Europe.
The Schloss Wachenheim corporation is now a world leader in sparkling and semi-sparkling wine production, with sites in Germany, France, Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic.
In Germany, it markets brand names such as Faber, Feist, Light Live, Schloss Wachenheim, Nymphenburg Sekt and Schweriner Burggarten; in France, Charles Volner, Muscador and Opéra; in East-Central Europe, Cin&Cin and Dorato.
The company group also sells other product ranges such as wine, alcohol-free wine, vermouth, spirits and other wine-based drinks. These products are marketed in over 80 countries on all continents.
The corporation sold the equivalent of roughly 212 million whole bottles in the business year of 2013/14.
The company holds 61.1% of the company Ambra, listed in the Polish stock market.
