Hawesko Holding AG is a Germany-based retailer and wholesaler of wines, champagnes and other alcoholic drinks, focusing on the premium market segment. The Company reports three operating segments: Digital, B2B, and Omni-Channel. Omni-Channel is the specialist wine-shop retail segment comprising the activities of Jacques' Wine-Depot.
The segment markets wine via a network of retail outlets across Germany, as well as online. Jacques' Wine-Depot also organizes events related to wine.
B2B is the wholesale and distribution segment, comprising business activities with retailers, which are conducted via distance selling and via Wein-Wolf Group, an organization of trade representatives.
The Digital segment comprises distance selling of wine directly to consumers, as well as the corporate gifts and catalogue business. The Company is active primarily in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, as well as in the Czech Republic and in Sweden.
The company offers its products through mail-order retail, wine shop retail, trade representatives, and wholesale/distribution channels, as well as online. Its activities also comprise gifts business, subscription business, and wine club.
Hawesko Holding AG operates 284 Jacques’ Wein-Depots, including 281 Jacques’ Wein-Depots in Germany and 3 Jacques’ Wein-Depots in Austria. The company was founded in 1964 and is headquartered in Tornesch, Germany.

HISTORY:
1964 HAWESKO (= »Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor«) is founded by Peter Margaritoff as a wine mail-order company in Hamburg.
1974 Jacques' Wein-Depot – The specialist wine-shop retailer is founded by Jacques Héon and Dr. Olaf Müller-Soppart in Düsseldorf.
1981 Alexander Margaritoff and his brother take over their father’s mail-order business HAWESKO; sales that year amounted to DM 10 million.
1983 Takeover of Jacques’ Wein-Depot by Horten AG (which subsequently became part of Kaufhof Holding AG, then of the Metro Group); 50 Wein-Depots.
1986 CWD Champagner- und Wein-Distributionsgesellschaft is founded as a wine wholesaler.
1989 Acquisition of a 70% interest in Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor HAWESKO and CWD Champagner- und Wein-Distributionsgesellschaft by Kaufhof Holding AG (part of the Metro Group).
1997 Opening of the new logistics centre for Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor HAWESKO and CWD Champagner- und Wein-Distributionsgesellschaft; Jacques' Wein-Depot has 130 Depots.
1998 Consolidation of the three wine trading companies under the umbrella of Hawesko Holding AG. IPO in May the Metro Group no longer holds any shares in Hawesko Holding AG.
1999 Hawesko acquires a 90% shareholding in the 300-year-old traditional wine trader Carl Tesdorpf – Weinhandel zu Lübeck (founded in 1678) as well as a 90% shareholding in the Wein Wolf Group.
2001 Hawesko introduces the own-label brands 'Marques de Sandoval' and 'Mount Athos' in the mail-order segment.
2009 Development is split in two: robust in the business with end-consumers in the specialist retail segment (Jacques' Wein-Depot) and in the mail-order segment (Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor), but sluggish in the wholesale segment.
2011 Hawesko announces taking a majority share of the Spanish wine specialist Wein & Vinos from 2012.
2018 The Group expands its portfolio of retail brands with the fine-wine market leader in Austria, Wein & Co.
